Alpha motor neurons (α-MNs) are large lower motor neurons of the brainstem and spinal cord. They innervate extrafusal muscle fibers of skeletal muscle and are directly responsible for initiating their contraction. Alpha motor neurons are distinct from gamma motor neurons, which innervate intrafusal muscle fibers of muscle spindles.

α－lower運動神經纖維軸突的突觸連接到單一骨骼肌纖維上
能夠傳遞刺激至骨骼肌組織的神經元稱運動神經元。 軸突終幾乎與肌漿膜上的溝狀結構接觸其間以突觸裂相隔；位於軸突終端正下方的肌 漿膜稱為運動終板(motor end plate)；神經元的軸突終端和肌纖維接觸的部位構成神經肌肉接合(N-M-J)。

reciprocal inhibition 相互抑制(交互抑制)
這概念是行為學派的學者 Wolpe 於1962年發展出來的，簡單來說，就是『人在同一時空中，只能存有一種行為傾向』這樣看起來很抽象，可以用這例子來瞭解，如在同一個時空中，一個人不可能同時既興奮又平靜，此時，也就表示『興奮』和『平靜』是交互抑制的，此時間地點，有興奮就沒有平靜，反之亦然。因此治療者可以透過此概念，即可利用各種方法設計獲得平靜來抑制興奮的出現。另外像是『放鬆』也可用來抑制『恐懼』、『焦慮』等等。

Reflex 反射
是一種不由自主的行為。所有反射，除了伸張反射，都會牽涉到至少三種神經元，輸入神經元、中間神經元、輸出神經元。
簡單反射：這是天生的、每個人都會作出相似的反應，如膝跳反射（擊打膝蓋，小腿會向上）。
經典條件反射：又稱古典制約，是要經過學習的。如一隻狗經訓練後，一聽到某種聲音便會分泌唾液。神經訊號由感受器發出，經過延髓或脊髓，不經過大腦，直接傳遞到作用器。
