Korsakoff's syndrome (Korsakoff's psychosis, amnesic-confabulatory syndrome), is a degenerative brain disorder caused by the lack of thiamine (vitamin B₁) in the brain. The syndrome is named after Sergei Korsakoff, the neuropsychiatrist who popularized the theory.
